HVAC Troubleshooting

Top 5 Easy but Common Causes of HVAC Problems - check these BEFORE calling a tech

  1. Check your thermostat; is it on the right setting? If your thermostat is off (blank screen), replace the batteries.

  2. Check you furnace filter; a blocked air filter will impact your furnace, your air conditioner or heat pump, and your indoor air quality.

  3. Emergency power switch; typically a red switch on the ceiling or high up on the wall near or just outside your mechanical room. Sometimes accidents happen and it may be off without you knowing.

  4. Breaker: maybe you turned it off to do something else and forgot to turn it back on, hot it by accident, or didn’t realize this was on the same switch as something else.

  5. Blocked vents; make sure your system has air flow; keep the vents (furnace and hot water heater) and outdoor unit (heat pump) clear from snow in winter; keep the outdoor unit (air conditioner or heat pump) clear from overgrown grasses in the summer.
